  • Let it be known, that the City of Ohrid in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, Yugoslavia, and the City of Windsor in the County of Essex, Ontario, Canada do hereby declare their Brotherhood as Twin Cities in recognition of International Friendship and Understanding of the Social, Cultural, Economic and Educational Bonds Enjoyed by our Twinned Cities.

Ohrid is a large town in southwestern Macedonia and is the capital of Ohrid Municipality; it is the eighth-largest city in the country with over 42,000 inhabitants. Ohrid is a town of vast history and heritage and is one of the most remarkably well-preserved historic sites in Europe; it was made a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) heritage site recognized for its Cultural and Natural World Heritage sites in 1980. Ohrid is the leading tourist town in Macedonia; it has 365 churches and offers beautiful images of nature and eons of history and culture.

Windsor and Ohrid celebrated their 35-year twinning anniversary in 2016, which has been marked by a solid Macedonian presence in Windsor, and which has been facilitated by community relations in churches and social halls. Also, today Macedonian is one of the top four languages that residents of the Lakeshore area in Windsor identify as their mother tongue.
