Child Care and Early Years
The City of Windsor, as the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager, is responsible for planning and managing the delivery of community-based early years programs and services for children from prenatal to 12 years of age within Windsor-Essex funded by the Ministry of Education.
On June 9, the Ministry of Education announced that licensed child care centres that had previously been mandated closed on March 17 may begin to reopen starting June 12. The Provincially approved plan for Emergency Child Care for Windsor-Essex County had been in place from April 6 and was ended on June 26, 2020.
Please be advised that all child care centres are required to follow enhanced health and safety protocols and meet additional requirements to reopen, per the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and Ministry of Education. The protocols include enhanced cleaning; mandatory screening of staff, children and parents; and ensuring an updated COVID-19 response plan with mandatory staff training is in place. Restrictions on groupings (cohorts) will be limited to 10 people per room, including both staff and children. As well, parent fees are required to be maintained at pre-COVID-19 levels.
There has been a gradual and safe reopening of licensed child care centres across Windsor-Essex County. Please click to see which which child care centres are currently open. Should you require child care, please contact a child care centre and secure your space. If you need child care subsidy, please apply for subsidy online or call 519-255-5312.
