Waste and Recycling
Green Bin Program
Starting the week of October 21, 2025, food waste and organics will be collected from Windsor residences. To make sure residents are ready, a Green Bin will be delivered to single-family homes during the months of July to October 2025. To find out when your collection begins, check your collection calendar.
By putting food waste in the Green Bin, you can reduce your garbage by up to 50%. Your efforts help to:
- Create renewable energy and fertilizer for next year's crops;
- Reduce greenhouse gases that are created when organics are unnecessarily landfilled;
- Extend the life of our local Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill, which avoids the high costs of a new one; and
- Foster a shared sense of environmental responsibility to support this agriculturally rich region.
For details on the Green Bins, including delivery and general information on the program, visit the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority website.
Blue Box Transition
- On August 28, 2024, the financial and operational responsibility of our blue box recycling program shifted to producers — those that produce and supply materials that end up in your blue box for collection. Windsor's blue box recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials. Find out more here: Ontario's Blue Box Transition - Extended Producer Responsibility Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Feel free to cruise through the various public services we have to offer. Our staff is always available during regular office hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, to answer any questions you may have regarding our operations.
