Heritage Property Tax Reduction Program

The Heritage Property Tax Reduction Program allows owners of eligible heritage property to apply for tax reduction (portion of municipal and school levies) in the form of tax reductions for eligible works conducted on the property.

Eligible Heritage Property

  • Is designated individually under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act

Eligible Work

  • Includes restoration of heritage attributes identified in a designation by-law and heritage conservation agreement or easement
  • Are actions and materials required to repair, restore, preserve, rehabilitate and stabilize identified heritage attributes

Amount of Tax Reduction

  • Full cost of repair, up to a maximum of 30% per year of the taxes for municipal and school purposes levied on the property
  • If the cost of eligible work exceeds 30% of the property tax for that year, the excess amount will be rebated for up to two additional years.
