2018 Round 1 Grant Recipients and Funded Projects
Forty-three applications totaling $173,855.46 in requested funding were received and adjudicated by our jury for the first round of funding in 2018. We are thrilled to announce that twenty of these projects have received ACHF funding in the total amount of $43,600. We extend our congratulations to the following:
Mike Kovaliv: $5,000 – Women of Windsor Photo Project and Exhibition - Funds will support the development and public exhibition of a photo exhibition focusing on important women in Windsor.
Ford City: $4,000 – Dropped on Drouillard Festival 2018 - Funds will support the development, promotion and community art activities at Ford City’s innovative festival.
Audra Macintyre: $4,000 – Windsor Language Exchange & Culture Exchange – Funds will support graphic design, promotion and technical support for a free event series that brings people together from many ethnic backgrounds to share culture primarily through language, but also through food, music, art and more.
Kiwanis Music Festival Windsor-Essex: $3,000 – Kiwanis Music Festival 2018 – Funds will support the production and promotion of this signature event for the music / performing arts community.
Chelsea Greenwell: $3,000 – Prismatic Breeze Exhibition – Funds will support the development and exhibition of an art project that will take place in various locations, including Windsor’s Ojibway Park.
Jude Abu Zaineh: $3,000 – Food Cell Art Project – Funds will support the development and public exhibition of an art project centred around food and human interaction with it.
Pat Jeflyn: $2,500 – On the Money Film – Funds will support the development and production of a locally produced film that explores actor Leslie McCurdy’s quest to tell the story of Viola Desmond and Harriet Tubman.
Stephen Drouin: $2,200 – Art on Culture Showcase – Funds will support the development and production of a Windsor Fashion showcase at a grassroots level.
Andrew MacLeod: $2,000 – The Wards of Windsor Music Compilation – Funds will support the development, production and performance of an album and short documentary highlighting music styles and artists from across the City of Windsor.
Korda Artistic Productions / Extension Korda: $2,000 – Not Another High School Murder! – Funds will support production and presentation of a locally-written and produced original stage parody by youth performing artists working in a training program with theatre mentors.
Windsor Essex Youth Choir: $2,000 – 10th Anniversary Celebration Concert – Funds will support the production and presentation of the choir’s special commemorative celebration concert.
Vanessa Shields: $1,990 – Master Mouth-Off Storytelling Competition Event 2018 – Funds will support the production and presentation of a ‘best-of’ event for the locally-created and locally-produced storytelling event featuring Windsor writers.
Amy Lock: $1,960 – Kids Corner Arts & Crafts at Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market – Funds will support the arts activities and interactive displays throughout the 2018 season of the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market.
Gregory Stasiak: $1,650 – Pop-Up Poetry Troupe – Funds will support the development and public performances of an interactive, ‘pop-up’ poetry troupe at community events such as Open Streets Windsor 2018.
Windsor Classic Chorale: $1,300 – Sacred Sunrise Concert – Funds will support the promotion, production and presentation of the Sacred Sunrise Chorale Concert by the Windsor Classic Chorale.
Justin Lafontaine: $1,000 – Stroll Windsor Pilot Project – Funds will support the development, production and promotion of a heritage and cultural tourism based neighbourhood/community walk highlighting a specific location/area/district in Windsor.
Michael DiFazio: $1,000 – From the Wood Works – Funds will support the development and production of a community art project.
Ostoro Petategoose: $1,000 – Deracinated Art Project – Funds will support the development and production of an art project in connection with Indigenous artists to develop small bronze and natural material mixed media sculptural art pieces.
Kate Hargreaves: $500 – ‘Winner’ Writing Project – Funds will support the development and of a local writer’s newest literary arts project.
Asaph Maurer: $500 – Face to Face – An Inaugural Art Show – Funds will support the development, production and public presentation of a local visual artist’s solo art exhibition.
Overall, the jury was excited with the variety of applications received and believes the applications selected for funding demonstrated a strong fit to the objectives and key priorities of the ACHF program. They were pleased to see more first-time applicants illustrating that the cultural community of Windsor is both thriving and stretching their artistic boundaries. Additionally, the Jury commented on how they enjoyed the entire process and appreciated the opportunity to make an impact on the arts, culture and heritage scene in Windsor. They strongly believe the funded projects all provide exciting and engaging concepts with great opportunities for partnerships, and strong potential to help grow and develop new audiences and an even greater appreciation for the arts in Windsor.
