ACHF Funded Projects 2016 Round 2

2016 Round 2 Grant Recipients and Funded Projects

Twenty-nine applications totaling $116,412.46 were received and adjudicated by our Jury for the first round of funding in 2016. We are thrilled to announce that fifteen of these projects have received ACHF funding. We extend our congratulations to the following:

Windsor Dance eXperience: $2,250 - These funds will be used to make costumes and purchase new equipment.

Amilcar John Nogueira: $5,000 - These funds will be used for artist fees to allow Amilcar to explore the changing nature of Sandwich, Walkerville and the Downtown core through exploration of the benefits and drawbacks of gentrification.

Ruby Mckinnon: $2,500 – These funds will be used to produce a full length album.

Windsor Essex Pride Fest: $4,500 – The project will use the funds for artist fees and material costs to develop a participatory exhibition on the theme of Diversity Matters.

Windsor Jewish Community Centre: $3,000 - These funds will be used towards the Jewish Film Festival.

Colin Wysman: $2,500 - These funds will be used to produce a second full length album.

Ashley VanWyck: $2,400 - These funds will be used for artist fees and costs associated with the Windsor Poetry Slam and Feature Artist Series.

Walkeville Artist Coop: $580 – These funds will be used to build needed exhibition equipment.

Vanessa Sheilds: $2,450 – These funds will be used to produce the Mouth Piece Storytelling Master Mouth Off event.

Elaine Carr: $4,744 – These funds will be used for artist fees, materials and collaborative workshops allowing the project, Cartographies of Identity to work specifically with First Nations youth.

Downtown Windsor Community Collective: $3,400 - These funds will be used for artist fees and production costs for 4 small community projects.

House of Toast Film and Video Collective: $5,000 – These funds will be used for artist fees, venue, materials, and promotions of the 22nd Media City Film Fest.

Melanie Janisse Barlow: $3,340 – These funds will be used towards the rent of studio space and artist fees as part of the Poet Series of paintings being developed.

Andrea Mercier: $900 – These funds will be used for artist fees for an exhibition and performance created by 2 artists.

Joe Merheje: $1,036 – These funds will be used for artist fees and expenses to provide a workshop focused on the art of storytelling in the urban scene.

Overall, the jury was excited with the number of individuals and organizations who applied for their first grant. The variety of applications received clearly show the breadth and depth of cultural engagement in the City. The jury believes the applications selected for funding demonstrated a strong fit to the objectives and key priorities of the ACHF program. Additionally, the Jury strongly believes the funded projects all provide exciting and engaging concepts with great opportunities for partnerships and strong potential to help grow and develop new audiences and an even greater appreciation for the arts in Windsor.

Additionally, the Manager of Cultural Affairs would like to extend thanks to the jury who participated in the evaluation of the 2016 ACHF. The jury consisted of:
