Experience fun and excitement for children of all ages at the Chimczuk Museum and François Baby House. Permanent exhibits chronicle Windsor’s history from prehistoric times to the present, and temporary exhibits offer unique perspectives on a wide range of topics.

Programming highlights include the following:

Get to Know Your Museum Tours

The Get to Know Your Museum Tours are currently being offered, giving students the opportunity to explore the brand-new exhibits at two Museum Windsor locations:

  • The Chimczuk Museum, 401 Riverside Drive West.
  • The Maison François Baby House, 254 Pitt Street West

Local French History and Indigenous Programs

Explore exhibits featured at the historic François Baby House and Original Peoples Culture & Legacy Gallery, and participate in programming that highlights local French and Indigenous traditions and history.

Memories - Offsite Programs for Seniors

Senior programming utilizes artifacts and photographs from the museum's collection to help connect seniors to the past. These highly interactive programs aim to engage seniors though nostalgia and involve museum staff bringing all required material directly to the senior centre or retirement home.

Tours are available in both English and French (minimum 15 participants). Contact the museum for more information about group admission rates.

Windsor Walking Tours

Museum Windsor offers a variety of private walking tours. Some of the topics are featured below.

Walkerville

The town that whisky built. This tour dives into who Hiram Walker was and how he created a town in what would become Walkerville. The tour examines some of the lasting heritage structures still standing, many of which are tied to the Walker family story.

Sandwich

This tour covers the Sandwich neighbourhood from 1797 to the present while appreciating the remaining heritage buildings. From the Underground Railroad to the War of 1812, this town wears its history on its sleeve. 

Ford City

Examining the history of Ford City, this tour explores the origins of the Ford Motor Company of Canada, its influence on the community, the town's immigrant makeup, and the national effects of the Strike of 1945. 

Riverside

In the early 20th century, slogans advertised this bedroom community as Riverside Ozone Has No Smoke Zone. Clean air, access to the Detroit River, no smog. What's not to like? This tour explores some of the historical buildings and their significance to the former town of Riverside, relationships between the French settlers and the Indigenous people, and the neighbourhood's special relationship with the Detroit River.

Ottawa Street

In the 20th century, if you were a mom-and-pop business in Windsor, there was a strong chance you operated on Ottawa Street. This tour highlights companies that have lasted three to four generations alongside some modern counterparts. Other talking points include cultural community centres, Lanspeary Park, and the development of the Ottawa Street Village Mall.

South Walkerville

This tour focuses on the First World War (WWI). Guests will reflect on the street names memorialized after battles where many of our local fallen soldiers gave their greatest sacrifice for our country. Different battles and their ties to Windsor and the soldiers from Windsor who served our nation are discussed.

Detroit From Afar

Only in Canada can people enjoy the most incredible view of Detroit's skyline. This tour explores the critical buildings and infrastructure of Detroit's skyline and river region. This tour covers over 300 years of history!

French History Walking Tour

Join Museum Windsor staff on a walking tour to learn about the local French history of Windsor-Essex and Detroit. This tour takes place in downtown Windsor, along the beautiful waterfront. This tour is available in English or French. 

Biking Tour Along Windsor’s Waterfront

Join Museum Windsor staff as we bike along the Windsor Riverfront! The tour stops at locations between the Great Canadian Flag and the Ambassador Bridge to interpret monuments and art sculptures and discuss some unique Windsor-Detroit history.
