Glengarry Fire Update Temporary Shelter Supports those in Need

A temporary emergency shelter with a growing number of services is supporting tenants displaced from the 333 Glengarry apartment building.

As was reported yesterday, a fire broke out on the seventh floor, and the entire building was evacuated. There was hope the tenants of floors one through five would be allowed back in, but that was not the case, as some additional building compliance requirements had to be met. As of Thursday night, the temporary shelter at the WFCU Centre located at 8787 McHugh Street safely accommodated 49 people, 5 dogs and 1 cat.

Transit Windsor is providing shuttle service for tenants throughout the day today to and from the WFCU Centre and the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4) at 400 Wyandotte Street East. The H4 and WFCU Centre staff are providing information directly to residents. Residents can also call the Community Housing Corporation (CHC) at 519-254-1681x2231 until 4 p.m. After 4 p.m., please call 519-973-4469 or email district1@wechc.com for further details.

Further updates on services, the shelter and 333 Glengarry will be provided later this afternoon.
