Transit Improvements and Fare Restructuring

Transit Windsor is making improvements to service and convenience in 2021 through an updated fleet, extra amenities and new technology.

Transit Windsor has recently taken delivery of 19 new clean-diesel buses, reducing emissions and Transit Windsor’s carbon footprint.  As well, 70 new bus shelters will be placed at stops around the city, and 147 new concrete pads will be installed for greater accessibility. The Transit Windsor Smart Ride card will see the elimination of the need for paper tickets, and real-time overcrowding software will improve efficiency.

“Transit Windsor is continually aiming to improve the riding experience for our customers, and these latest changes will definitely help,” said Executive Director Tyson Cragg. “By starting the implementations now, we’ll be better able to serve our returning riders when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and full service can once again be offered.”

Along with the service and convenience improvements, Transit is also restructuring fares as of Thursday, July 1, 2021.

As approved during the 2021 budget process, fares will increase by 2%. A full list of pricing can be found at transitwindsor.ca.

Additionally, each new smart card purchased will be subjected to a $1.00 fee. Customers who have an existing smart card, prior to July 1, 2021, will not be charged the fee when reloading their card. Customers may purchase smart media until June 30, 2021, at the current prices.

The sales office at Windsor International Transit Terminal, 300 Chatham Street West, is open 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays (closed Christmas Day). Transit Centre, 3700 North Service Road East, is open 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed on Saturday, Sunday and all statutory holidays. Please visit transitwindsor.ca for a complete listing of where you can purchase smart media.

Now, more than ever, the best way to save money is by purchasing a smart pass or ride card. It’s convenient, and you’ll never have to worry about carrying exact change.
