Phase One of Huron Church Reconstruction Begins

Motorists using Huron Church Road in their travels are seeing some major changes between Malden Road and Pool Avenue this week.

Traffic has now shifted over to the lanes normally used for southbound traffic, allowing reconstruction work to commence on the northbound lanes. Other changes include the closure of Malden Road between Daytona and Huron Church. Eastbound Malden Road has a posted detour with no left turn allowed at the Huron Church intersection.

Businesses remain open during construction. East side business access will be off Daytona Avenue (from Northwood or Totten), and west side business access remains as usual. The work includes new concrete; curbs, medians and sidewalks; street lighting improvements; and new traffic signal infrastructure.

Detour signage and specialty business signs will be in place throughout construction.

Once this work is complete, further information will be relayed to the public regarding the next steps in the reconstruction project.

The 4.83-million-dollar reconstruction project is possible thanks to three million dollars in funding from the provincial government under the Connecting Links Program. The City will contribute the remaining funds.
