Peace Fountain and Meet-A-Machine
Two Windsor traditions are being impacted by COVID-19.
The annual installation of the Charlie Brooks Memorial Peace Fountain into the water alongside Coventry Gardens would normally be happening next week, in time for the Victoria Day long weekend. Unfortunately, the installation is not something deemed essential under provincial construction orders. We will continue to watch for changes to provincial covid-19 rules and install the fountain if rules and time permit.
The annual Meet-A-Machine community literacy event hosted by City of Windsor Children's Services each June is being cancelled for this year.
The tradition of hosting machines of all shapes and sizes in the parking lot of the WFCU Centre for children to discover and explore will move to the summer of 2021.
Due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, as well as the time, preparations and scheduling of volunteers, equipment and location cancellation is the appropriate action.
While disappointed to be cancelling, the health and safety of residents and visitors always comes first and it’s hoped everyone can enjoy other options this summer while we all look forward to an end of COVID-19.
