Leaf Collection Reminder

Fall is in the air, and that means the leaves are on the ground. With that in mind, the City of Windsor Environmental Division has some tips and reminders for residents headed out to do some raking:

  • Mow or mulch leaves prior to putting them into an acceptable container - three containers worth will now fit into one!
  • Leaves are a natural and beneficial source of carbon! Add them to your flower gardens or backyard composter, and mulch them up for your lawn. Reduce the number of paper bags you use, save money, and help us increase collection efficiency.
  • Please don’t rake your leaves into the street. It is against the law and creates dangerous road conditions.

If you are collecting your leaves to put out at the curb, acceptable yard waste containers include the following:

  • Paper yard waste bags
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Garbage cans
  • Approved roll-out carts

Please note that leaves and yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be collected. Yard waste should be placed at the curb (no alley collection) by 6 a.m. on your scheduled day. Please refer to your collection calendar for your scheduled day. You can also find a copy of the collection calendar online.

Residents can also drop off their yard waste at the Public Drop-Off Depot at 3540 North Service Road East, Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you have any further questions about leaf collection, contact 311.
