Huron Church Road Improvements Coming Soon

Improvements to Huron Church road are set to begin in early April that will provide important infrastructure upgrades and a new smooth surface to a substantial section of the busy roadway between Malden road and Dorchester road.

“We have an opportunity to upgrade a vital link for both commuters and border traffic thanks to some provincial funding”, said Operations Executive Director Dwayne Dawson. “We know it will cause some short-term pain but the long-term gain and the savings to tax payers will make it well worth it”.

The 5.5 million dollar reconstruction project is possible thanks to 3 million dollars in funding from the provincial government under the Connecting Links Program.  The City will contribute the remaining funds.  The work includes new concrete, replacement of existing water main and services, street lighting improvements and new traffic signal infrastructure.

Stage one of construction will see the complete closure of the north bound lanes of the roadway, shifting all traffic to the south bound lanes where two way traffic will be installed.  Once stage one is complete, traffic will shift to the other side, again with one lane of traffic allowed in each direction. During construction, no left turns off Huron Church Road will be permitted through the construction zone.

Information has also been distributed to businesses and residents along the route, the Ontario Trucking Association as well as FCA Canada.  Road signage will be in place two weeks prior to the start of construction.  Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout construction.

Reminder:  A Public Information Centre (PIC) is being hosted by the City of Windsor and Dillon Consulting:
