Extra Caution Advised Due to High Water Levels
The City of Windsor and Windsor Port Authority are advising extra caution be taken by anyone enjoying the Detroit River shoreline or who plan to be boating during Fireworks Night, June 24, 2019.
Extremely high water levels are creating some dangerous conditions:
The water is much deeper than normal near the shoreline;
The water is much colder than normal;
The water is moving more quickly than normal;
Obstructions near the shoreline that would normally be visible may be hidden below water now, including docks, rocks and pilings.
Everyone near or on the water is asked to use extra caution to ensure their night is safe and enjoyable.
Boaters are also asked to keep their speed below 10 knots when within 100 feet of the shoreline. The wakes from faster moving vessels can cause shoreline erosion and create an unseen danger for anyone to close to shore.
