City Prepares for Possible Work Stoppage in Public School System

The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) is expected to close schools this Wednesday, should no new deal in teacher talks be reached, and that would also mean the closure of the EarlyON Child and Family Centre’s located within the GECDSB system:

  • Dougall
  • Harrow 
  • Lakeshore Discovery
  • Margaret D. Bennie
  • Princess Elizabeth 
  • Talbot Trail
  • Begley
  • Westgate
  • Roseville
  • Queen Elizabeth
  • John Campbell

If you would like information on Child Care and/or Child Care Subsidy (including approved day camp programs), throughout Windsor-Essex, please contact Children’s Services Intake line at: 519-255-5312.

Per the GECDSB, Child Care Centres that are located within their school board are allowed to remain open. For information from the school board, please visit the GECDSB website.

City Recreation Department Offers Options:

In preparation of this potential action, the City of Windsor Recreation Department is now taking registrations for day camp programs on January 8, 2020 for ages 4 and up. The locations and barcodes are as follows:

The fee for this camp is $32.00 per day, and children can be dropped off for this program as early as 7:30am and picked up as late as 5:30pm. Parents wishing to secure a spot for their child can register at any time at any of our community centres. All locations offering this program will be open at 7:30am on January 8, 2020 and prepared to take registrations. In the event that schools are open, a full refund will be issued. ​
