Tips for Conserving Water

  • When purchasing new appliances or fixtures, consider ones that will save water and energy.
  • Wash only full loads in the dishwasher or clothes washer instead of several small loads.
  • Soak pots and pans before washing. When washing dishes by hand, fill one sink or basin with soapy water.
  • Check regularly for any leaks and fix them. Most common bathroom leaks are found in faucets and in toilets.
  • Turn the tap water off while brushing your teeth, shaving or washing your face.
  • Cut down on your shower time and/or only fill the bathtub one-third full when bathing.
  • Insulate your water pipes. You will get hot water faster plus avoid wasting water while it heats up.
  • Collect rainwater in an old barrel or other large container that is outfitted with a spigot and a suitable cover, and use the water on your garden.
  • Do not over water your grass or landscaping.
