Mayor Welcomes Women’s Baseball Championship
The City of Windsor will be the host site this week for Baseball Canada’s Women’s Invitational Championship.
The best players in Canadian Women’s Baseball, including players from Team Canada will be in Windsor from August 3 to 6, 2017.
Teams from Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario will make up four of the five teams in the tournament, and a team of 21-and-under prospects from across Canada will make up the fifth.
“Sports are extremely important to the fabric of local communities,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “These athletes are all excellent role models for their provinces and the sport of baseball, and having them here in Windsor to showcase their skills collectively is a wonderful opportunity for our community.”
Local talent Jessica MacPhearson (Essex, ON) will be on the squad for Team Ontario.
Games are scheduled to take place at Father Cullen Stadium at Mic Mac Park and admission is free.
The Women’s Invitational Championship has been an annual event since 2006. This will be the first time it has been held in Windsor. The 2017 edition is being hosted by the Tecumseh Minor Baseball Association (TMBA) and the City of Windsor.
